More About Beth

Beth has developmental disabilities and a severe visual impairment that might otherwise have defined her life and limited her future. She spent most of her early adult years working for a few dollars a week in a sheltered workshop in Marshall, Texas, but then Beth connected with The Arc and her life changed dramatically. The Arc helped Beth to learn how to speak out for her own needs and those of others with disabilities and to represent their needs to public officials.

Beth left the sheltered workshop and now our Program Coordinator, training other people with disabilities to advocate for themselves and plan their futures. Some of her credentials include: President of Texas Advocates, a state-wide organization of people with disabilities who speak out for themselves; she has been appointed by Commissioners of state agencies to advise them on policies and programs that serve people with disabilities; and Beth has traveled to Washington to advocate with our representatives in Congress. She has received numerous awards for her distinguished service to the people of Texas.

Beth is a woman who has benefited from the opportunities made available by The Arc. Now she helps others find the same opportunities for personal growth and service. She is an example of what The Arc does to support people with disabilities; how it creates opportunities and builds futures. The Arc continues to support Beth and others as they speak out to enhance the lives of Texans with disabilities.
